A Year of Drawings

Because drawing always makes you feel better.

Now that Foster and Panda have shared their “year of masks” with you, I thought I would share my “year of drawings”. Because it hasn’t only been about masks. This past year was one of changes, emotions, and new routines. And one of the best ways I have found to cope with those things is to draw pictures.

By the time I figured out that this was going to last longer than we all expected, it was Day 32.

By Day 37 I was starting to get kind of used to staying at home.

Being whimsical on Day 39.

Before we knew it, it had been 40 days and 40 nights, and Panda and Foster had done their first “Social Distancing” news report.

By Day 46 my imagination was starting to run away with me.

By Day 55 I was starting to realize that Mark was “missing out” on all of this.

Of course, we were listening to church online, and one thing about doing that is you can draw pictures during the preaching. Because it was online, we were able to have a variety of different evangelists, without them ever having to leave their hometowns. Bro. Cody Marks preached “Do Not Waste Your Purpose” all the way from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Being “stuck” at home also gave me lots more time to research my family history.

By Day 70 I was starting to realize that this would have been a lot easier if Mark had been here. You can see it was “officially Day 2” of the reopening of Fresno County, but that didn’t last long.

Father’s Day, and we were still in lockdown.

Two Wednesday Bible studies on the same page.

Sometimes you just have to draw your prayers.

By Mark’s birthday I had quit keeping track of how many days it had been. I wasn’t sure if I should be counting the days since the beginning of lockdown or since Fresno County had supposedly been “opened”.

There is an art to being “Big Girl” during a pandemic. Hopefully I was paying attention to the online Bible study too!

Quoted from “I Sure Miss You” by gospel singer Jason Crabb.

To be perfectly honest, sometimes whimsical doesn’t make you feel better.

Putting the events from my grandpa Emil’s WW1 memoirs in chronological order.

By December it really seemed like the sky was falling.

We made it to 2021.

God has a plan.

And so we arrived at March 19, 2021. I’ve tried to remind myself of this quote throughout the year. And drawing pictures has helped out a lot, too.

  1. It’s been a tough year. Your lovely drawings show that, and they show the progression that you’re going through with your emotions: some days, like your anniversaries, are much harder but you have faith and hope too. This will be over eventually but you’re right, things will never be the same In some ways, I’m sure some things will be better.
Many Easter blessings to you and the guys, Debra 🙂

    1. Thanks Chris! I debated a little bit about doing this post, but I think a lot of people can relate to the feelings and emotions. Besides wanting to “publish” my artwork, I thought it could be encouraging to someone at the same time. 🥰

      1. It was brave of you to bare your soul like this, Debra. I’m sure everyone can relate. To know what other people have been going through really does make it a little better and a little more bearable in the dark times.

  2. Enjoyed seeing all your drawings. It helped I am sure to keep your mind occupied. I painted a big picture just one in 2020 which I wouldn’t have done in “normal” times. It put me in a good mood and it is on the wall above the PC so I see it often. You did a little drawing of Scooby once which I copied but it was not in 2020 but in 2017! I cannot believe how much time has passed! Thanks for the picture–don’t know if I ever said! Who remembers?!

    1. Oh wow I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the drawings. Art is one of the best ways to keep your mind occupied, and you’re right, it does put you in a good mood. I’d love to see your painting! Maybe the kitties could do a post and show us 😀🤔I can’t believe it’s been that long since I tried drawing Scooby! That was before I had my comments enabled so maybe that’s why you don’t remember saying anything😋 You’re very welcome! Have a great Easter! 🐱🐼

  3. I enjoyed seeing your drawings. I did a lot of journaling and adding Bible verses to my journal during the pandemic. It helped me a lot during the isolation. Wonderful to see your art! 💗

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you came over and checked it out! Probably a lot of us found comfort in our favorite form(s) of art over the past year. If nothing else, our creativity was stimulated. 😊
