“Just add water!”

So, if you’ve read “Just Add Water” (part 1) you know that it’s easy to make your own cement.

It comes in very handy for making cement spheres, which can then be painted and used as yard art. (Actually you don’t want to know the story behind this “easy DIY” Pinterest project.)

This is how it turned out. But one attempt was enough for me. I think it was a bit more trouble than it was worth.

Being able to make your own cement is also great for putting “Gems on the sidewalk”. As stated above, you pretty much just have to add water. I would totally do this again. It was fun and rewarding.

I have several areas where I need to add more.

However, there’s only one thing to remember about making your own cement. Yes, you do have to add water. But only after you have poured it into a container to mix it up in. You can’t leave the bag out in the rain, because then you will end up with, well…this.

So, the next time I bought DIY cement mix, I got it in plastic bags. But unbeknownst to me, water can permeate plastic bags, especially if you leave them outside until the sun has cracked the plastic.

As you can see, I had actually bought two of these, and to be honest, I don’t even remember when that was. (Note to self: Next time you buy cement, use it before you forget when and why you got it in the first place!)
