Happy Cattiversary!

“Hey, Foster, guess what day it is?”

I pondered the question for a moment. “Umm. . . I don’t know,” I replied. “Tuesday?”

“Well,” Panda replied, “that’s a good answer, but think again.”

I thought some more. “I give up,” I said at length. “What day is it?

“Dude!” Panda responded, “It’s your six-year cattiversary!”

I stared at him, amazed. “My six-year catti-what?”

“Your cattiversary!” Panda repeated. “It’s August 2nd. Today is the six-year anniversary of when Mom got you, and tomorrow will be the six-year anniversary of when you got me!” I laughed, remembering. “So doesn’t that make it your pandaversary?”

“Hey!” Panda exclaimed. “I guess it does!” We both laughed. “Let’s look at our baby pictures!”

“Aww!” Panda said when we pulled up the pictures on Mom’s laptop. “Your first selfie with Mom!” I nodded. “Yep, that was the first time I ever saw her. The neighbors across the street were trying to convince Mom to foster me.”

Panda laughed. “Well, we know how that ended up,” he commented. “This one’s from the same day. It was your first nap in the recliner with Mom.”

“Wow!” I said when we clicked to the next photo. “I can’t believe I was ever that small!”

“Me either,” Panda agreed. “In fact, I can’t believe I was ever that big!” Laughing, I said, “I think you’ve been shrinking all these years, Bro!”

“Not to be rude,” I said as we looked at the next photo, “but weren’t you a lot cleaner back then, too?” Panda studied the picture for a minute. “Well, somehow I don’t think that’s entirely my fault,” he replied amiably.

Panda changed the subject. “Look how small you were compared to Mom’s Bible!”

“Isn’t that the rubber plant that’s outside on the patio now?” Panda asked as we continued clicking through the pictures. I replied in the affirmative. “Yep, I guess all the plants asked to be excused from being in the house for some reason.”

“And wasn’t that when you got home from your first vet visit?”

“Yes,” I replied. “I should have taken you with me like I do now. Remember when we thought you were going to get a shot, too?”

“How could I forget?” Panda said, laughing. “That was a close one!”

“So is this why we can’t have nice things on the mantle?” Panda wanted to know.

“Umm. . . basically.”

“Whatever happened to all the spots that used to be on your tummy?”

“I don’t know,” I responded lazily. “They do seem to have disappeared, don’t they?”

“Is it just the angle, or am I really that much smaller than you?” Panda asked, amazed. I had to admit I wasn’t sure myself. “Well,” I said, “I don’t know, but I think we’d better get off the computer before Mom comes home. She’ll probably say she has to finish her blog post anyway. Happy Pandaversary, Bro!” “Happy Cattiversary!” Panda replied. And with that, we went to take our nap.

  3. Happy Cattiversary Foster! You were so cute and so little. My kittens seem to be growing by the minute and my all black beauty with green eyes Michelle is beginning to resemble a panther. Ringo has become very attached to me and tries to jump higher every day as he explores the apartment, They send you their very best greetings.

    1. Thanks, Sandra! How fun to have kittens! I remember when Foster was little he couldn’t jump up on my lap so he would try to climb up and in the process his little claws would scratch my legs! 😬

      1. I get the scratches when I am going to feed them and Ringo is the impatient one urging me on, When I complained about the claws I think he understood but went one better now he latches onto my skirt or dress and swings there until food is served, lol I hope you’re all having a great weekend,
