Asleep in the Sewing Room, Part 2

So we got this box…

Mom said it was a loveseat for the sewing room.

I examined it from all angles, and I honestly didn’t think she was right this time. Every now and then something gets delivered and she’s forgotten what she ordered.

I watched with interest as she started unpacking the box.

I have to say it took her a really long time to get everything out.

Of course, I helped as much as I could. I guess it could be a loveseat after all.

Mom said one reason why they could get a loveseat into a box that size was that the cushions were vacuum packed in plastic bags!

She said it wasn’t that hard to put together.

I don’t know why, but a couple of times I got the feeling she was about ready to shut me out of the sewing room.

Are we done yet?

At one point she had to turn it over and do some stuff to the bottom .

There are empty spaces underneath where they had packed things like the legs and cushions. They have Velcro closures. She took this one for her “product review” because she said the fabric stitching tore away from the Velcro when she pulled on it. She used hot glue to fix it, but she said it’s a good idea to make sure you have a hold on the Velcro strip and not just the corner of the fabric when opening it.

Gradually our new loveseat was taking shape.

We were amazed at how much the cushions expanded when Mom opened the plastic coverings! Here you can see the contrast between the unopened one and the expanded one.

Finally it was finished!

It’s not real big, but Mom can comfortably stretch out her legs if she wants to.

I myself always prefer the windowsill.

This was fine with Mom, but in order to do it I had to jump from the corner of the cutting table straight to the windowsill, which, as you can see here was a considerable distance. Maybe if the windowsill wasn’t so narrow, it would have been okay, but this window doesn’t have an extending shelf on it like the ones in the bedroom. Having been duly “raised by Swedes,” after watching me make the jump a couple of times, Mom thought I might someday misjudge the distance and fall off.

Not too long after that, I was enjoying a nice nap on the bed when I was suddenly awakened by Mom telling me to come see my new shelf. She actually picked me up and put me on the shelf instead of waiting for me to find it myself. Needless to say, I was not the happiest camper at that moment!

The next day, Mom did what she always does when she wants me to climb up somewhere. She put Panda on the windowsill and then acted like she wasn’t watching. Naturally I went up right away to get knock Panda down onto the loveseat.

So now I have a new shelf to sleep on, and I can jump up to the windowsill safely.

Why all this attention on the sewing room lately? Well, it’s Mom’s newest brainstorm idea: she changed the closet into a sewing space. So far she hasn’t sewn anything since she finished it, but when she does, I guess we’ll know if it was a good idea or not.

Until then, I’ll be enjoying my new loveseat and watching Mom continue her never ending project of organizing the sewing room.

And while you’re waiting, you might want to go back and read “Asleep in the Sewing Room” (Part 1).

  1. I love that you always have a project going! Nice of you to build a shelf for Foster even if it’s only a stepping stone. And I love the little sewing room! Wish I had space for one myself but all of my closets are full of stuff! 🙂 🙂
