So Many Topics. . .

So little time!

Well, that’s not completely true. Since I’m retired, and I only volunteer three days a week at the Christian school library, I actually have plenty of time to write blog posts. I have several drafts waiting in progress, and even more blog post ideas that are currently folders on my laptop with pictures in different phases of being cropped and resized.

So what did I decide to do about it? The idea came to me yesterday, after a bit of reflection. Write a blog post about all the blog posts you intend to write! Maybe after giving your readers a taste of things to come, you’ll actually be more motivated to finish them all! So with that said, let’s get started.

The Paper Route Bike

I alluded to this idea at the end of “Vintage Toys”. It involved doing some research about paper boys and bicycles in the 1940s. Here is a preview of what I have found so far.

I found this by searching “paper boy” on Wikipedia. According to the image credits, the photo is in the public domain. It was taken in Toronto in 1940. You can see the article here.

This is the bottom half of the sales contract from Valley News Company in Bakersfield for my dad’s paper route bike. Apparently, when you got a paper route, you could purchase a bike from the paper company. It was purchased by my dad and grandfather on December 18, 1947, and paid in full on May 20, 1948. Stay tuned to see the top part of the contract as well as more photos and info about the 1940s era paper boys.

Vintage Razors

Did you know that World War One was the first war in which soldiers were required to shave? Neither did I, until I came across some vintage razors that I can only assume belonged to my Grandpa Johnson.

When I noticed that this one was engraved with “Property of U.S. Army”, I started looking things up and doing Google image searches. It turns out that it was thought that gas masks would have a tighter fit if the wearer was clean shaven. In 1918, the Army issued shaving kits for use in the fields.

I don’t remember where online I found this, so if it’s copyrighted to anyone out there, let me know and I will go back and add the proper image credits. Does my U.S. Army razor I have the “J” serial number? You’ll have to wait for the post to find out!

Food Art

You’ve seen “food art” on Pinterest, right? The kind where people make panda bears out of Oreo cookies or caterpillars out of grapes and carrot sticks? Well, you may not believe this, but Foster has his own line of food art!

I used this photo in “Kitty Acne”, but since then I have been photographing some of his more creative attempts.

This one looks like a smiley face with bushy eyebrows, possibly frowning.

I’m pretty sure that by this one, he’s saying that as a cat mom, I rank Number One!

And I think this is Central America along with the southern half of Mexico. He’s also done Italy, and what I think might be India. In the “actual post”, Foster will be doing the narration, so that should be interesting.

The Guest Bathroom

.”You may remember the guest bathroom from “A Whimsical Door” and “That Sinking Feeling”. The whimsical door is not going anywhere, but I’ve finally gotten the wallpaper off and the bathroom is painted a lovely shade of “Illuminated Sky”.

As you might have guessed, there is a story behind that as well!

Naturally I photographed every step of the project, and it’s almost done. But not quite.

Mid Century Memories

Stay tuned! I’m open to votes on which post you would like to see next. Just let me know in the comments!
