Happy Pandaversary!

“Hey Panda!”

“Guess what I just thought of?” Foster’s voice woke me from a sound sleep. “What?” I asked, still drowsy from my nap.

“Monday was your 10-year pandaversary!”

“My what?”

“Your pandaversary!” Foster responded. “Remember four years ago when it was our 6-year cattiversary? It’s the anniversary of when Mom got us! We looked at our baby pictures and did a blog post about it! The kids at school like checking the story out from the library.”

“Oh yeah!” I exclaimed. “She got you on August 2nd, 2016, and you got me on August 3rd!”

“Yep!” Foster agreed. “I was so little back then and you were so big!”

“Hmm,” I said slowly. “I’m not sure I was actually –“

“I still remember my first selfie with Mom!” Foster went on, ignoring what I was going to say. “Hey let’s look at pictures of what we’ve done in the past ten years!”

“”Okay,” I said. “That sounds fun. We can look at some of our adventure stories from the school library.”

The first book we opened was “A Flying Carpet Ride” from 2017. “I remember that,” I said. “It was the first time I fell off our flying carpet. What made us go there in the first place?” We turned a couple of pages and then Foster said, “It looks like we fell asleep and didn’t realize we had gotten to the Grand Canyon.”

“It was a lot more fun in 2024, when we went for the second time,” he remarked. I had to agree. “At least that time we went there on purpose.”

“I think this was our second adventure,” I said as we opened “Area 51“. We laughed as we remembered how I fell off the flying carpet again and ended up in the Joshua Tree Forest.

“That was also our first time flying a plane,” Foster reminded me. “We were sure glad to get out of Area 51!”

“After that you seemed to fall off lots of things,” Foster observed. I nodded. “After so many times of being dropped by birds and falling off of stuff, I’m not even afraid of heights anymore!” was my reply.

“Which is more than I can say for you,” I added. Foster sniffed. “That is not funny,” he said. “Hey, was that from when we went to the Swiss Alps?”

“I think so,” I replied. “But we went on the sky tram at the San Diego Zoo once, too.”

“You pretty much make me go on those things everywhere,” Foster said. “The one at Bariloche was especially scary.” I paid no attention to his complaints. “Well, at least we were able to find the missing chocolate,” I reminded him smugly.

“Well,” Foster said. “Going up on that pole with the voladores in Mexico was where I drew the line.”

“Suit yourself,” I replied. “I thought it was an exhilarating experience.”

“Though not quite as exhilarating as winning the log rolling championship at Yosemite,” I added thoughtfully.

Foster studied a photo in “Foster and Panda in New York”. “You really aren’t scared of heights,” he remarked. “I couldn’t believe you went across the Brooklyn Bridge when the hamster got stuck up there.” I had to laugh when I remembered our hamster friend getting accidentally dropped onto the bridge by the sea gull.

“Oh wow!” I exclaimed, opening another story. “I almost forgot we went to Tokyo for the Olympics! When was that?” ” Foster chuckled. “It was during Social Distancing, in 2021,” he replied. “And who would have thought you would have won the gold medal in karate?” We reminisced about how the men in orange jackets had kidnapped Panda and tried to get his gold medal. We high-fived each other as we remembered how we had helped break up their gold stealing ring.

“And after that we caught them running a fish stealing ring in Cayucos, California,” I remembered.

Foster did have to admit it was fun going surfing inside our travel tunnel.

“And we’ve been to the Louvre twice,” he remarked as we looked at “A Trip to the Louvre” and “Back to the Louvre“. “That was pretty exciting.”

It was on our second trip to Paris that we met François and his Parisian friends, who were investigating last year’s jewel heist at the Louvre.

“And who would have thought Little Alexandre would win the royal chess tournament in London?” I said, remembering how Little Alexandre had started out at an informant to François’s informants, and was now a detective in his own right.

“Wow!” I said when we had finished looking at some more of our adventure stories. “I don’t think Mom knew we even went on most of those adventures!” Foster agreed. “Yeah, it seems like every time we go on an adventure, she’s busy working on her blog.” We thought for a minute, and then Foster said, “Happy pandaversary, Buddy!”

“Happy pandaversary, Bro,” I replied, and then it was nap time.
